To start services through Tricare, you will need to contact your child’s primary care physician. You can call them to request a referral or doctor’s order (depending on which type of Tricare insurance you have) for services at Blast Off, but they may set up an appointment to determine whether your child needs services. Once the referral/doctor’s order is approved, it will be sent to Tricare who then sends Blast Off an authorization to start services. Once we receive the authorization our front office manager, Mary, will call you to get the intake process started by asking for some of your personal information, your primary concerns for your child, and your availability for appointments. Once that information is gathered, we will take a look at the therapist’s schedules and schedule the evaluation at the earliest date possible. You will then be sent an email regarding the paperwork needed to be completed prior to the evaluation. The evaluation is one hour long and the therapist will interact with and assess your child in person in our clinic. It is recommended that one or two caregivers attend so that the therapist can take a thorough case history. Once the evaluation is completed, the therapist will interpret the results, formulate a care plan, and write a comprehensive evaluation report explaining the results and goals. At the end of the evaluation appointment, if therapy is recommended, you will meet with Mary to schedule re-occurring appointment times for ongoing therapy. Tricare speech therapy sessions are typically 30 minute sessions twice a week. OT and PT sessions are typically 60 minute sessions once a week.
